In Nazilli district of Aydın, a 'Scottish' cat, brought to the veterinarian by its caretaker, was found to be having difficulty giving birth due to a dead two-headed kitten in its womb. It underwent a cesarean section. The dead kitten was removed, and the cat gave birth to three healthy kittens. The mother and kittens are reported to be in good condition. Veterinarian Osman Yırtımcı noted that such birth defects are more common in 'Scottish' cats.

The cat, brought to the clinic by Mustafa Öz, who lives in Dumlupınar neighborhood, was found to have a dead fetus stuck in its birth canal, preventing it from giving birth. The cat, whose life was in danger, underwent surgery. While three kittens were successfully born via cesarean section, the other kitten, identified as having two heads, was stillborn. The mother cat was also spayed during the surgery.

"As a veterinarian, this is the first time I've encountered such a case."
Veterinarian Osman Yırtımcı said, "A cat was brought to our clinic with a complaint of difficult birth. During the initial examination of our cat, we diagnosed that there was a kitten stuck in the birth canal and it was not coming out. When we performed a manual examination, we observed that the entrapment was quite significant. We thought that the kitten had died in the mother's womb and could not come out due to swelling or some other reason. Since a long time had passed, we immediately took the mother cat to a cesarean section. During the cesarean operation, we saw that the kitten stuck in the canal and causing the difficult birth was a two-headed kitten. The kitten has 2 heads, 2 noses, 4 eyes, and 2 mouths. This is a very rare and interesting situation. As a veterinarian, this is the first time I've encountered such a case. Because of the time that had passed, we lost this kitten. It was stillborn. Immediately afterwards, we delivered the other 3 kittens in good health. The operation lasted 1.5 hours. All 3 kittens and their mother are in very good health. The mother cat is currently under the effect of anesthesia." "They sleep with her. The kittens are nursing from their mother," he said.

"Disabled births are common in Scottish breeds," Yırtımcı noted, adding, "This breed is very different from the normal cats we know. These cats of Scottish origin have genetic problems. We don't want such cats to be owned or bred. Breeding and selling these types of cats is prohibited in most countries."
