THE MURDER WAS UNCOVERED THANKS TO A MESSAGE SENT TO THE APARTMENT BUILDING'S GROUP CHAT
Farkhondeh Ghaem Maghami (51), an Iranian national who had been missing for about a month in Maltepe, Istanbul, was murdered. Following a missing person report filed by her relatives on May 12th, law enforcement launched an investigation and, through meticulous technical surveillance, uncovered the brutal crime.
Voice messages stopped, "I'm on vacation" message aroused suspicion
Police teams found no signs of a struggle during their examination of Maghami's apartment. However, activity in the apartment building's WhatsApp group changed the course of the investigation. Maghami, who normally used voice messages in the group, sent a written message on April 18th saying "I'm on vacation," which did not escape the detectives' attention. Focusing on the possibility that the message may have been sent by someone else, the teams determined that the last person she spoke to was Erkan B. (49).
Strangulated in the car after dinner
Erkan B., who was taken into custody, was forced to confess to the murder during cross-examination. The suspect stated that on April 14th, he picked up Maghami from her home and they went to a restaurant in Büyükçekmece. He said that during an argument in the car on the way back, he strangled her to death. Erkan B. explained that after the murder, he took the body from Istanbul to Kırşehir and left it in an empty field in the Mucur district.
The body was found in Kırşehir.
Following the suspect's directions, a search of the field in the Mucur district of Kırşehir led to the discovery of an unidentified woman's body on April 22nd, which was confirmed to be that of Farkhondeh Ghaem Maghami. A total of six people, including Erkan B., were taken into custody. Erkan B. was arrested on charges of "intentional homicide," while the other five suspects were released under judicial supervision.
