THE FIRST HOLIDAY OF THE NEW STATE
The Law on Declaring April 23rd as a National Holiday was accepted on April 23, 1921, exactly one year after the opening of the First Grand National Assembly. With this decision, the first holiday of the new state was declared. The law, consisting of two articles, stated in its first article that "April 23, the day of the first opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, is a national holiday," and in its second article that "The Grand National Assembly is responsible for the implementation of this law, which is considered valid from the date of its acceptance."
