MOTHER AND BABY LOVE CELEBRATES SPECIAL CELEBRATION FOR MOTHERS FROM THE MAYOR

Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Fatma Şahin celebrated Mother's Day with enthusiasm, meeting with families and children at the second annual Mother and Baby Festival. The festival was held at Festivals Park on May 9-10, 2026.

MOTHER'S DAY JOY AND FESTIVAL COLOR

Mayor Şahin toured the festival area, visited the stands, learned about the events, and interacted closely with the children. She chatted with families and conveyed her heartfelt wishes for Mother's Day. The festival was filled with stage shows, concerts, workshops, competitions, and play areas for children. This special gathering, where families enjoyed spending time together, offered entertainment, art, education, and social activities. Events such as Concert Man, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Children and Youth Choirs, Animal Kingdom Dance Show, mini disco, acrobatic performances, and storytelling captivated the little ones.

EXPERT OPINIONS AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY MUNICIPALITY

As part of the festival, talks and informative events for parents were also organized. Experts in fields such as child development, healthy parenting, raising children in the digital age, pregnancy, child health, allergies, and nutrition met with families and shared valuable information. Mayor Şahin emphasized the dedication mothers show for their children, saying, "There is a very special love in a mother's gaze towards her child. I thank our mothers who did not leave us alone on this special day, and our fathers who stand behind us like a mountain. That special gaze in a mother's gaze towards her child means a very special love, affection, prayer, trust, home, and great devotion that goes from heart to heart." Stating that Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality works with the vision of being a "family-friendly metropolitan municipality," Şahin said that they provide support in every area, from the development of babies to the needs of parents.

CHILD-FOCUSED APPROACH IN EDUCATION AND TALENT SCREENING

Şahin stated that they attach great importance to education and development studies for children, saying, "We opened Türkiye's first baby library. We opened our children's library. The preschool period is especially important. Following the understanding that 'what you are at seven, you are at seventy,' we also say 'six years old is too late, seven years old is too late.' We conduct talent screenings. If we can understand our children's innate talents, we can raise them better." He emphasized that talent screenings have been conducted for 22,000 kindergarten students to date and that they are working with the goal of making Gaziantep "a city of education, a city of science, a city of sports, a city of culture and art." Stating that a strong family structure is the fundamental element that holds society together, Şahin concluded by saying, "We are showing the whole of Türkiye our family-friendly local development."
