FIRE DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES NATURE WALK TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT FOREST FIRES

The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department organized a nature walk in the Malta Waterfall area to strengthen internal solidarity and raise public awareness about forest fires. The event was attended by the Head of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, Yaşar Korkmaz, fire department branch managers, and numerous fire department personnel. Participants walked a total of 8 kilometers in the natural setting, collecting waste that poses a fire risk and sending a message of awareness against forest fires.

ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP DURING THE WALK

During the nature walk, attention was also drawn to the environmental risks that cause forest fires. Glass bottles, plastic waste, and various other litter found along the route were collected by fire department teams, resulting in an environmental cleanup. The event emphasized that waste left in nature, especially during the summer months, can cause large fires, highlighting the importance of keeping forested areas clean. Fire department personnel both cleaned the environment and conveyed a message to citizens about protecting nature.

“WE WANT TO RAISE AWARENESS IN SOCIETY”

Fire Department Forest Villages and Rural Area Fires Intervention Branch Manager Şerife Güzel stated that the event was important both in terms of physical activity and awareness, and said the following: “As fire department employees, we wanted to have a regular sports activity. We are here both to improve our fitness and to draw attention to forest fires. We will be cleaning up garbage on a total of 8 kilometers of course, both going and returning. We want to raise awareness in society. Protecting nature is our duty.”
