The young man tragically lost his life while waiting for the bus

In Küçükçekmece, a construction engineer, Görkem Selvitop, lost his life in an accident when a pickup truck hit a manhole cover and mounted the sidewalk while he was waiting for a bus at a bus stop. The accident report found both the truck driver and the responsible organization at fault. Selvitop's uncle stated, "Many accidents have occurred on this road before. We will file complaints against both the driver and the institutions and organizations that failed to take the necessary precautions."

The heartbreaking accident occurred on April 27th at approximately 6:30 PM on Turgut Özal Boulevard in the İstasyon neighborhood of Küçükçekmece district in Istanbul. According to the allegations, Görkem Selvitop (38), a construction engineer who had just gotten off his company's shuttle bus and was waiting for a bus at an IETT bus stop, was hit by a pickup truck driven by Ercan Ç.

YOUNG ENGINEER LOST HIS LIFE

According to the accident report, the pickup truck hit a manhole cover on the road and then mounted the sidewalk. A van struck engineer Görkem Selvitop, who was waiting for a bus, causing him serious injuries. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene following a report. Despite initial treatment at the scene and subsequent transport to the hospital, Görkem Selvitop succumbed to his injuries.

"VAN DRIVER HIT MANHOLE AND WENT ONTO THE SIDEWALK"

The accident report prepared by police teams investigating the scene stated that the van driver, Ercan Ç., hit a dislodged manhole cover on the boulevard, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, go onto the sidewalk, and strike Selvitop, who was waiting for a bus. The report found both the van driver and the organization responsible for the manhole cover at fault.

"NO MEASURES TO SLOW DOWN VEHICLES"

Speaking about the accident, Görkem Selvitop's uncle, Mehmet Güner, said, "My nephew Görkem Selvitop was coming here from work on a shuttle bus. While waiting to catch another bus to go home, a speeding pickup truck coming from behind hit the manhole cover in front of the traffic lights, dragging it along. The vehicle went onto the sidewalk and ran over my nephew. There have been many accidents on this road before. There are no measures to slow down vehicles here; these need to be done. Therefore, we will file a complaint against both the driver and the institutions and organizations that have not taken the necessary measures."
