Operation Launched Against Suspects Involved in Blackmail via Virtual Media

In an operation centered in Tekirdağ and spanning five provinces, 11 of the 16 suspects arrested for recording private videos of individuals they met through social media under the guise of "VIP rooms" and then blackmailing them, have been remanded in custody.

It was determined that the suspects' accounts showed a transaction volume of approximately 70 million Turkish Lira over nine months, and that the money was transferred to cryptocurrency markets.

The Tekirdağ Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in coordination with the Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch, launched an investigation into suspects who were allegedly involved in "forming and managing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes, blackmail, threats, and aggravated fraud" through social media.

The investigation revealed that the suspects, who were also broadcasting obscene content on social media, recorded their video calls under the name of "VIP rooms," and then extorted money by threatening to send the videos to their relatives.

Investigations revealed that the transaction volume in the suspects' accounts reached approximately 70 million TL within 9 months, and the money obtained was transferred to cryptocurrency markets.

Police conducted simultaneous operations in Tekirdağ, Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir, and Kocaeli to apprehend the suspects, arresting and detaining 16 people, including 9 women.

During searches at the addresses, 2 unlicensed hunting rifles were seized, and numerous digital materials were confiscated. Following their processing at the police station, 11 of the suspects were arrested and 5 were released under judicial supervision.
