Valleywood It could be full steam ahead for film production in Arizona

The Arizona Motion Picture Production Program (MPPP) has seemingly been a windfall for Arizona, local businesses and film production professionals.

Since the program was established in 2022 via HB2156, spearheaded by Sen. David Gowan (R) and former Rep. Regina Cobb (R), myriad production companies have taken advantage of the incentives, even as lawsuits have challenged the program.

To date, the MPPP has issued 34 pre-approvals since the start of the program totaling $26,361,470, according to the Arizona Commerce Authority, which administers the motion picture program. Another four pre-approvals are currently pending.
Nine post-approvals have been received and issued since the start of the program totaling $2,131,256, and 17 projects are currently in production based on the submitted 9-month notification reports. In total, the ACA has received 53 pre-approval applications since the start of the program.
