2 popular Gilbert parks slated for major improvements beginning this year

PHOENIX — Construction will begin this year on major improvements at two Gilbert parks, the city announced Friday.

The renovations will benefit the Crossroads and Freestone parks, with the projects getting on-site, hourlong open houses.

Much of the improvement is centered around long-term water stability, as well as upgrades to outdated infrastructure.

Crossroads Park, which is located near Ray Road and Santan Village Parkway, will get the following renovations:
Aging irrigation system replacement.
Lake renovation as part of a town-wide initiative.
Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) wells to support water resiliency.
Most of the work is expected to be completed by summer 2027. There is a longer timeline for the ASR system eyeing completion in spring 2029.

The informal open house for this project will begin at 5 p.m. at the Left Field Ramada on May 7. The city noted “residents are welcome to attend at any time during the scheduled hour.”

Upgrades to Freestone Park near Val Vista Drive and Guadalupe Road include:

New pickleball complex and splash pad.
Skate park and ballfield concrete repairs.
Aging irrigation system replacement.
Lake renovation to improve water quality and long-term performance.
Construction is already 30% complete on the pickleball complex and splash pad, with the rest of the project expecting completion by spring 2027.
