The first thing to say is: driving to the Book Fair isn't the best idea. As the Fair progresses and gets more lively, the parking lot at La Rural fills up, lines form—you know the drill: the typical Book Fair scene.
In that sense, public transport will have many advantages, and if for some reason the car is necessary, it's not a bad idea to leave it a few blocks further away and walk.
That said: anyone wishing to park inside the premises, so as not to carry the weight of the books when leaving the tour, will have to pay 8,400 pesos per hour . And for a half stay, 42,000 .
The classic of classics: satisfying hunger with a hot dog. Between orders of pabellón (a traditional Colombian dish), at the outdoor carts, a "Super Pancho" costs 6,900 pesos and a soda, 4,500. Water—still or sparkling—or flavored water costs the same. If you want beer, the price goes up to 6,500.
But if hunger strikes, there are sirloin sandwiches for 19,500 pesos, a full sirloin sandwich for 20,900, and fries for 7,200. In another outdoor area, where the food trucks are located, a hamburger costs 13,000, a breaded cutlet sandwich 20,000, and a crusty or pita sandwich 11,000. The cheapest croissant in the area is found here: 2,000 pesos.
For something lighter, there are small cones of french fries for 10,000 pesos and crepes with chips for 13,000. A black coffee costs 4,000, and if you add two croissants, the total is 8,000.
For those who prefer pizza, there's a large mozzarella option with two drinks for 36,000 pesos. At the kiosk in the same area, a small coffee costs 5,500 pesos and a large one, 6,500 pesos.
In the pavilion housing the provinces, accessible from Avenida Santa Fe, there are cafes with a slightly different menu. Coffee there costs 7,000 pesos, tea 6,300, and water 5,500. An apple crumble costs 11,800, and three chips, 6,600.
A promotional menu
Because the Book Fair runs for so long and attracts so many visitors, the El Libro Foundation, for the first time in the event's history, has partnered with local bars and restaurants to offer a special menu. From today until May 11th, thirty eateries will be offering discounts and specials. There's coffee, pizza, keto food, meat—you name it. The discounts vary: some are 10 percent, others 25 percent, and there are also set menus for 14,000 pesos.
Anyway, you can always - and many people do - bring your mate, have a picnic on the grass, open your Tupperware container with the pudding or sandwiches.
