Electricity consumption in China increased by 5.2 percent in the first three months of the year

Electricity consumption in China increased by 5.2 percent in the first three months of the year compared to the same period last year.

According to data from the National Energy Administration of China, electricity consumption reached 2.51 trillion kilowatt-hours in the January-March 2026 period, a 5.2 percent increase year-on-year.

Electricity consumption increased by 7.1 percent year-on-year to 33.6 billion kilowatt-hours in primary industries producing raw materials such as agriculture, forestry, and mining; by 4.7 percent to 1.6 trillion kilowatt-hours in secondary industries including manufacturing; and by 8.1 percent to 483.3 billion kilowatt-hours in tertiary industries covering trade, transportation, real estate, finance, and services.

Household electricity consumption also increased by 3.4 percent to 398.5 billion kilowatt-hours during the same period.

Electricity consumption in the country reached 10.4 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2025, exceeding the 10 trillion kilowatt-hour mark for the first time in a single year.
