According to data from the National Energy Administration of China, electricity consumption reached 2.51 trillion kilowatt-hours in the January-March 2026 period, a 5.2 percent increase year-on-year. Electricity consumption increased by 7.1 percent year-on-year to 33.6 billion kilowatt-hours in primary industries producing raw materials such as agriculture, forestry, and mining; by 4.7 percent to 1.6 trillion kilowatt-hours in secondary industries including manufacturing; and by 8.1 percent to 483.3 billion kilowatt-hours in tertiary industries covering trade, transportation, real estate, finance, and services. Household electricity consumption also increased by 3.4 percent to 398.5 billion kilowatt-hours during the same period. Electricity consumption in the country reached 10.4 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2025, exceeding the 10 trillion kilowatt-hour mark for the first time in a single year. |
