Network that swindled millions using crypto scams has been dismantled

In an operation targeting a network that defrauded citizens through fake applications by posing as crypto investment managers, centered in Kocaeli and spanning 9 provinces, 19 of the 24 suspects detained were arrested.

According to a statement from the Kocaeli Provincial Police Department, the Cyber ​​Crimes Branch Directorate teams conducted an investigation into the prevention and tracking of cyber crimes.

**They Presented Themselves as Managers**

The teams determined that suspects were carrying out fraudulent activities across the country, presenting themselves as managers of crypto investment firms using phone lines registered in the names of foreign individuals.

MATRIX-5 SCAM: THEY CONVERTED MONEY INTO PHYSICAL GOLD

It was determined that the suspects tricked the victims into downloading an application belonging to a fake company called "MATRIX-5," transferred the incoming money to cryptocurrency accounts, then transferred it to bank accounts belonging to shell gold companies they had established, and committed fraud by purchasing physical gold from jewelers in Gebze district of Kocaeli and in Şanlıurfa.

Within the scope of the file, it was determined that two victims in Kocaeli transferred 7,115,046 Turkish Lira to the suspects' accounts using the method described.

SIMILAR OPERATION IN 9 PROVINCES: 19 SUSPECTS IN PRISON

In a simultaneous operation conducted in 9 provinces, centered in Kocaeli, 23 suspects were apprehended. Additionally, one person was detained in Şanlıurfa based on the evidence obtained.

The evidence and numerous materials seized during the searches were examined and the procedures were completed.

Following their procedures at the police station, 19 suspects were sent to court and subsequently arrested, while 5 were released under judicial supervision.
