I am incredibly happy the emotion of Franco Colapinto’s father at the historic exhibition in Palermo
Aníbal Colapinto spoke exclusively to TN before the show that will feature his son as the main protagonist.
“I am incredibly happy, I am thrilled. I hope the Argentine people enjoy it,” said Aníbal Colapinto , Franco’s father, before the exhibition that the Alpine driver will give before thousands of people in Palermo.
Surrounded by hundreds of fans showering him with gifts like wooden toy cars, flags, and letters, Aníbal Colapinto was visibly happy. “I’m thrilled, it’s a unique and unrepeatable moment,” he told TN.
Franco Colapinto will be the first Argentinian to drive a Formula 1 car on the streets of Buenos Aires, in an event unmatched by fans, which will last six hours and extend throughout much of Sunday afternoon.
The 22-year-old will be in charge of driving two true gems this Sunday: a 2012 Lotus E20 with a Renault V8 engine and a replica of the legendary Mercedes-Benz W196, the famous Silver Arrow that immortalized Juan Manuel Fangio.
“I’m very happy. Happy to be back in Argentina after so long. It’s special to bring an F1 car back after so many years. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was a kid,” Colapinto acknowledged beforehand via the official Formula 1 account.
What will Franco Colapinto's exhibition in Buenos Aires be like?
The event will also include a special tribute to the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio , the five-time Argentine Formula 1 world champion. It will consist of a ride around a circuit marked out on the streets of Palermo in the city, aboard a replica of the Mercedes-Benz W196 Roadster with which the Balcarce legend won the world championship in 1954 and 1955.
The replica is almost entirely faithful to the original model, although it has one key difference: the engine. “The original had materials like titanium and magnesium that are almost nonexistent today. That's why we used a more modern Mercedes engine, but the rest is practically the same,” Diforti explained to TN.
