External pollution has been detected in the Gulf of Izmir

Routine scanning activities conducted by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in the Gulf of Izmir with the support of drones have detected external pollution for the 10th time since November. External waste materials were sighted on the sea surface in Bayraklı.

The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues its efforts to identify the elements causing pollution in the Gulf of Izmir without interruption.

According to ANKA news agency, the Metropolitan Municipality, which has not received a positive response to its applications for the transfer of inspection and enforcement authority in the Gulf to the municipality, has detected external pollution for the 10th time since November of last year as a result of aerial imaging. External waste was once again sighted in the Bayraklı region.

IZDENIZ officials stated that the detection of pollution on this scale in the inspections conducted only since November reveals the extent of the violations that have been ongoing for years and that the natural structure of the Gulf has been under severe pressure for a long time.

Authorities stated that diesel fuel and waste spreading on the sea surface are degrading water quality, threatening the habitats of marine life, and posing a risk of permanent damage to the ecosystem, emphasizing the need for effective preventive measures due to the persistent risk of external pollution in the Gulf.
